Landmark & Heritage Meeting Minutes – July 2019

MINUTES OF THE BRUSLY LANDMARK & HERITAGE COMMISSION
July 15, 2019

A meeting of the Brusly Landmark and Heritage Commission was held on Monday  July 15, 2019, at Brusly Town Hall, Brusly, Louisiana.  Chairman Rills called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.  Commissioner Soniat led the Pledge of Allegiance.  A roll call determined the following:

Commission Chairman:                      Jim Rills
Commission Members Present:          Billy Bourgeois, Margaret Canella, Henry Soniat
Commission Members Absent:          Edward Dupuy, Rose Jackson, Shirley Jordan
Advisory Members Present:               Brian Falcon
Advisory Members Absent:               Scarlet Callicoatte, Billy Hebert
Others present:                                   Joanne Bourgeois

Upon motion by Commissioner Bourgeois, seconded by Commissioner Canella, the minutes of the   April 15, 2019, meeting were unanimously approved as written.

Landmark Plaque Applications:

Council Member Bourgeois presented the application for a Landmark Plaque for residence at 407 Gwin Street, now owned by Richard & Paula Soniat, previously owned by Morris Modlies.  The house is believed to have been built in the 1940s.

Following discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Bourgeois, seconded by Commissioner Canella, to recommend to the Brusly Town Council that the home at 407 Gwin Street receive a Town of Brusly Landmark Plaque. The motion passed unanimously.

Advisory Member Scarlet Callicoatte arrived at the meeting during the discussion regarding the Landmark Plaque Applications.

Other Business:

The next meeting of the Landmark & Heritage Commission will be held on October 21, 2019.

Public Comment:

Chairman Rills reported that the Landmark Plaque Ceremony was very well attended, and he was very pleased with the outcome.

Council Member Joanne Bourgeois thanked Commissioners Bourgeois, Rills and Soniat for attending the Landmark Plaque Ceremony and also thanked Advisory Members Falcon and Hebert for their assistance with the ceremony.

A motion was made by Commissioner Bourgeois to adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Canella.  The motion passed with a unanimous vote. Commission Chairman Rills adjourned the meeting at 6:47 p.m.
