Landmark & Heritage Meeting Minutes – April 2023

MINUTES OF THE BRUSLY LANDMARK & HERITAGE COMMISSION
April 17, 2023

A meeting of the Brusly Landmark and Heritage Commission was held on Monday April 17, 2023, at Brusly Town Hall, Brusly, Louisiana. Chairman Rills called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. Commissioner Bourgeois led the Pledge of Allegiance. Chairman Rills expressed his condolences and asked for a moment of silence for the recently diseased Jeffrey Thibodaux, the late husband of Landmark & Heritage Secretary, Patricia Thibodaux. Chairman Rills introduced Mr. Brian Parsons, the newest member of the Landmark & Heritage Commission. A roll call determined the following:

Upon motion by Commissioner Falcon; seconded by Commissioner Soniat, the minutes of the January 23, 2023, meeting were unanimously approved as written.

Landmark Plaque Applications:
Ms. Joanne Bourgeois narrated a slide presentation accompanying a Landmark Plaque application for the home at 2227 Allene Street, presently owned by Joseph & Evelyn Mancuso.
Upon the conclusion of the presentation, a motion to recommend the home to the Town Council as Landmark Plaque recipients was made by Commissioner Bourgeois; seconded by Commissioner Parsons. The motion passed unanimously.
Former Landmark Site Applications: None

Other Business:
A date and time of June 11th at 3:30pm was set to hold a Landmark Plaque Ceremony.
Ms. Joanne Bourgeois called attention to an 1854 Brusly Landing map donated by Mr. Edward Dupuy, showing St. James Square and the surrounding area. The map has been restored and framed and is now on display in the Council Chamber. Commissioner Soniat reported that the Landmark Plaque at 131 St. Mark Street has been taken down due to renovations being done to the home and volunteered to speak with the present owner to have said plaque reinstalled at the completion of the renovations. Ms. Bourgeois distributed a spreadsheet showing the status of plaque installations to the Commissioners.

Adjournment:
A motion was made by Commissioner Falcon to adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Bourgeois. The motion passed with a unanimous vote. Commission Chairman Rills adjourned the meeting at 6:45 PM.
