Town Meeting Minutes – Thursday, May 26, 2005

May 26, 2005

Town of Brusly
Brusly, Louisiana

A special meeting of the Town of Brusly was called to order by Mayor Joey Normand this date, May 26, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. at the Brusly Town Hall. The Mayor announced that all cell phones are to be turned off or silenced.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Police Chief Jamie Whaley.

A roll call by Town Clerk Jules Lefeaux determined the following officials present:

Mayor: Joey Normand
Council Members: David Rodrigue, Ronda Perrault,
Joanne Bourgeois, Chris Kershaw
Absent: Shane Andre’
Attorney: Jamie Fontenot

Mayor Normand led the discussion on a recommendation for hiring a labor crew leader. Council Member Perrault moved to table the item until a special meeting of June 6th at 6:15 PM when all five Council Members would be present for the discussion. Council Member Kershaw said he would like to discuss the matter with those who did the job interview. The motion passed with four affirmative votes.

Mayor Normand led the discussion on hiring a police officer. Police Chief Jamie Whaley recommended Mr. Darrell Guillory, who retired from Baton Rouge City Police with 27 years of service, and would waive health insurance and retirement benefits. His contacts in Baton Rouge would be helpful in capturing bench warranted offenders, and he has passed all required tests. If you also want to know more about retirement benefits, you can hire a Retirement Financial Advisor near you and reap the benefits. Council Member Kershaw requested his retirement status be reviewed by Chief Whaley. A motion was made by Council Member Bourgeois to hire Mr. Guillory upon certification of his retirement situation and the passing of all required tests. The motion was seconded by Council Member Rodrigue, and passed without opposition. Town Clerk Lefeaux stated that he felt there would be no problems with earning wages from the Town of Brusly since Mr. Guillory was retired from Baton Rouge City Police, and was sure that Blue Cross Health Insurance could be waived.

A motion was made by Council Member Perrault to adjourn, seconded by Council Member Kershaw. The motion was unopposed. The meeting adjourned at 5:13 p.m.
