Town Meeting Minutes – Friday, October 14, 2005

A special meeting of the Town of Brusly was held this date, October 14, 2005 at the Brusly Town Hall. Mayor Joey Normand called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.. Council Member Perrault led the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call determined the following present:
Mayor: Joey Normand
Council Members: Ronda Perrault, David Rodrigue
Joanne Bourgeois, Shane Andre’,
Chris Kershaw
Town Attorney: Jamie Fontenot

The meeting was called to discuss and act on Police Chief Jamie Whaley’s recommendation at the Town’s Regular Meeting to hire a new full-time police officer. The recommendation had been tabled at the previous meeting due to the absence of two Council Members. The officer has passed the required psychological examination. This addition to the force will increase the budget by approximately $41,000 to $42,000. The officer’s expected salary will be $19,984 and benefits will be $20,468.

Chief Whaley explained that with this new position two experienced officers will be able rotate and work bench warrants; increasing traffic income.
Council Member Kershaw suggested that any major changes to the budget be made during budgeting time.

A motion was made by Council Member Andre’ to accept Chief Whaley’s recommendation; seconded by Council Member Rodrigue. A roll call vote had the following results:

Yeas: Rodrigue, Perrault, Bourgeois, Andre’, Kershaw
Nays: None
Absent: None

Motion to adjourn was made by Council Member Andre’, and seconded by Council Member Perrault. The meeting adjourned at 6:07 p.m.
