Landmark & Heritage Meeting Minutes – October 2024

MINUTES OF THE BRUSLY LANDMARK & HERITAGE COMMISSION
October 21, 2024

A meeting of the Brusly Landmark and Heritage Commission was held on Monday October 21, 2024, at Brusly Town Hall, Brusly, Louisiana.  Chairman Rills called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. Commissioner Bourgeois led the Pledge of Allegiance.  A roll call determined the following:

Commission Members Present:          Billy Bourgeois, Margaret Canella,
Brian Falcon, Brian Parsons, Henry Soniat
Commission Members Absent:          Edward Dupuy
Advisory Members Present:               Billy Hebert
Advisory Members Absent:                Scarlet Callicoatte
Others present:                                    Joanne Bourgeois

Upon motion by Commissioner Bourgeois; seconded by Commissioner Falcon, the minutes of the  July 15, 2024, meeting were unanimously approved as written.

Landmark Plaque Applications:
Joanne Bourgeois narrated a slide presentation accompanying a Landmark Plaque application for the home at 1241 W. Main Street, currently owned by Ian C. Bizette, Jr. & Victoria Blanchard Bizette. Upon the conclusion of the presentation, a motion to recommend the home to the Town Council as Landmark Plaque recipients was made by Commissioner Soniat; seconded by Commissioner Canella. The motion passed unanimously.

Former Landmark Site Applications:  None

Other Business:
Chairman Rills opened the floor for nominations for Commission Officers. Commissioner Soniat nominated Commissioner Rills for Chair and Commissioner Falcon for Vice-Chair; seconded by Commissioner Bourgeois. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Margaret Canella stated that she is longer be available to serve as a Landmark & Heritage Commissioner.

Ms. Bourgeois reported that Scarlet Callicoatte is no longer available to serve as an Advisory Board Member. After some discussion it was decided that Commissioners should email suggestions for replacements to Patricia Gaudet Thibodaux to forward to Mayor Rhodes for consideration.

The meeting dates for 2025 were set as follows:
January 27, 2025
April 21, 2025
July 21, 2025
October 20, 2025

Ms. Joanne Bourgeois shared Ethel Blanche LeBlanc’s 1913 Brusly High School diploma which had been donated to the Town of Brusly.

Public Comment:  None

A motion was made by Commissioner Soniat to adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Falcon.  The motion passed with a unanimous vote. Commission Chairman Rills adjourned the meeting at 6:52 PM.
