The regular meeting of the Town of Brusly was called to order this date, May 11, 2026, at the Brusly Town Hall, at 6:30 p.m., by Mayor Pro-Temp Daigle. Council Member Young led the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call determined the following officials present:
Mayor Pro-Temp: Rusty Daigle
Council Members: Young, Chustz, Kershaw
Town Attorney: Thomas Acosta, Jr.
Absent: Tassin, Mayor Scot Rhodes
Recognitions & Commendations:
Mayor Pro-Temp Daigle recognized and thanked Mr. Tom Acosta for his 20 years of service as the Town of Brusly Attorney.
A motion to approve the minutes of the Town’s regular meeting of April 13, 2026, was made by Council Member Kershaw; seconded by Council Member Chustz. Mayor Pro-Temp Daigle opened the floor for public comment. Hearing no comments, the motion passed with a unanimous vote.
Public Works Committee:
Mayor Pro-Temp Daigle read the Public Works Report for the month of April, prepared by Public Works Supervisor Shane Sarradet. There were 4.1 inches of rainfall in the month; 0 SCADA alarms at our wastewater lift stations; 0 out of compliance test result at Sewer Treatment Facility; Union Baptist Graveyard ditch was brought to grade; 2026 Overlay project was completed; Repaired manhole cover behind Salad Station complex; Several catch basin sinkholes were repaired throughout town; Had meeting with Parish Drainage team about upcoming drainage work on Orleans Quarters.
Waste Pro roadside debris and out of cart pickup is scheduled for the week of May 11th.
Flags will be put up for Memorial Day and fly through July 4th.

Mayor Pro-Temp Daigle noted that the “Budget to Actual Comparison Report” for April, is available for Council Members to review.
The Mayor Pro-Temp Daigle read aloud the Budget Message, prepared by Mayor Rhodes.

Police Committee:
Assistant Chief Southon presented Life Saving awards to Lieutenant/Detective Allen and Corporal Byrd for their quick actions during 2 separate medical emergencies.

Introduction of Ordinances:
Council Member Kershaw introduced Ordinance 2 of 2026, Town Budget Adjustments 2025/2026 Fiscal Year.
Council Member Chustz introduced Ordinance 3 of 2026, Sewer Budget Adjustments, 2025/2026 Fiscal Year.
Council Member Young introduced Ordinance 4 of 2026, Town Budget 2026/2027 Fiscal Year. Council Member Kershaw introduced Ordinance 5 of 2026, Sewer Budget 2026/2027 Fiscal Year.
Resolutions:
A motion to approve Resolution 3 of 2026, to defer the collection of the Town’s Ad Valorem tax for 2026, was made by Council Member Chustz; seconded by Council Member Young. Mayor Pro-Temp Daigle opened the floor for public comment. Hearing no comments, the motion passed with a unanimous vote.
Police Department Report:
The Police Department Report for the month of April was given by Officer Keegan Allen. There were (33) Agency Assists, (8) Alarms, (1) Animal problem, (2) Assaults, (1) Burglary, (1) Child Custody Exchange, (1) Civil Incident, (5) Controlled Substances, (2) Damaged Property, (3) Disturbances, (1) DUI, (1) Fraud, (1) Juvenile Problem, (12) Medicals, (7) No Insurance Tows, (3) Obstruct Justice, (2) Obstruct Police, (3) Ordinance Violations, (1) Property Crime, (2) Public Services, (1) Security Check, (1) Stolen Vehicle, (4) Suspicious, (2) Theft, (8) Traffic Accidents, (6) Traffic Problems, (2) Unlocks, (2) Warrants, (1) Weapons Offense and (5) Welfare Checks. Total of 123 calls for the month. For the month, there were 208 total citations and 294 violations.

Council Member Young made a motion to adjourn; seconded by Council Member Chustz. Hearing no comments, the motion passed with a unanimous vote. The meeting was adjourned at 7:00pm.
