Now Hiring: Public Works Director

The Town of Brusly is accepting applications for the position of Public Works Director. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staff, maintenance, infrastructure, wastewater operations, inspections, and code compliance duties of the Town’s Public Works Department.

Position Summary

The Public Works Director is responsible for the supervision and coordination of Public Works operations for the Town of Brusly. This includes overseeing Public Works staff, managing employee timecards, maintaining town-owned buildings and parks, supervising streets and drainage work, overseeing the Town’s wastewater treatment facility, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.

The Public Works Director also serves as the Town’s official Building Inspector and Code Compliance Officer and is responsible for processing occupancy permits.

Primary Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise Public Works staff, assign duties, monitor work performance, and manage timecards.
  • Oversee general maintenance of the Town, including town-owned parks, buildings, facilities, and public areas.
  • Oversee the Town’s wastewater treatment facility and ensure proper reporting and compliance with Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality requirements.
  • Coordinate and supervise streets and drainage maintenance, repairs, inspections, and related projects.
  • Serve as the official Building Inspector and Code Compliance Officer for the Town of Brusly.
  • Process occupancy permits and ensures proper inspections, documentation, and approvals are completed.
  • Work with contractors, vendors, engineers, utility providers, residents, businesses, and government agencies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, permits, reports, maintenance logs, inspection documentation, and compliance records.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance issues involving streets, drainage, wastewater, public buildings, parks, and other Town property.
  • Ensure Public Works operations are performed safely, professionally, and in accordance with Town policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Applicants should have knowledge and experience in municipal maintenance, wastewater operations, streets and drainage, building inspection, code compliance, and employee supervision.

Applicant must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain, Wastewater Certification Class I and Class II.

Applicant must also possess a valid driver’s license and be able to communicate professionally with town officials, employees, residents, contractors, business owners, and regulatory agencies.

Work Environment

This position includes both office and field work. Field duties may require working outdoors in various weather conditions, inspecting job sites, visiting wastewater facilities, checking drainage areas, and responding to maintenance or emergency issues.

General Statement

This position is responsible for performing duties necessary for the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the Town of Brusly Public Works Department. Additional duties may be assigned by the Mayor or Town Administration as needed.
