MINUTES OF THE BRUSLY PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION MEETING
February 27, 2008

A regular meeting of the Brusly Planning & Zoning Commission was held on Wednesday February 27, 2008 in the Council Meeting Room, Brusly Town Hall, Brusly, Louisiana. Chairman Sarradet, called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

Members present: Jules Thibodaux, Shane Sarradet, Rosa Stelly, Claudette Purnell.
Members absent: Carroll Fontenot, Steve Perkins.
Others present: Marianne Berthelot, Mayor Joey Normand,
Joanne Bourgeois, Cletus Langlois, Oscar Denham,
Mary Denham, Donald Delatin, Gene Rills, Arlen Landry.

Upon motion of Mrs. Stelly, seconded by Mr. Thibodaux, the minutes of the January 23, 2008 meeting were approved as written.

Chairman Sarradet opened the public hearing on the “Preliminary Plat of Subdivision of the rear portion of Lots 1 & 2, Adonis Thibodeaux Heirs Property, Sec. 56, T7S, R12E, SE Land District, West Baton Rouge Parish, into Lots BD-1 and BD-2 for Oscar & Mary Denham, 153 N. LaBauve, Brusly, LA”. Two residents from Live Oak Drive were present and asked to speak. Mr. Donald Delatin was recognized. His concerns were: garbage pick-up and drainage. Mr. Gene Rill’s concerns were maintenance of right-of way and mobile homes. Mr. Cletus Langlois of Patin Engineers representative of Denhams addressed these concerns. Mr. Denham agreed that although he already stated that mobile homes would not be allowed, Mr. Langlois would put a statement on the plat as to that effect. Mr. Langlois advised that the right-of-way/street belongs to the town and drainage is addressed in the construction drawings. It was noted that a turn-around was not shown on the plat. Mr. Langlois answered that the type of turn-around would be up to the town and would also be addressed in the construction drawings.

Mayor Joey Normand enumerated the procedure for subdivisions as required by the town ordinance: Approval of Preliminary Plat; Approval of construction drawings; Construction begins; Approval of final plat.

Mrs. Stelly made a motion to recommend approval of the “Preliminary Plat of the Subdivision of the rear portion of Lots 1 & 2, Adonis Thibodeaux Heirs Property, Sec. 56, T7S, R12E, SE Land District, West Baton Rouge Parish, into Lots BD-1 and BD-2 for Oscar & Mary Denham”, contingent upon addition of a note prohibiting mobile homes. Mrs. Purnell seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

Under other business a request from Matthew Becker, 1877 Orleans Quarters Drive was taken up. Mr. Becker submitted a request for a variance to construct a fence over the Town of Brusly drainage servitude behind his home. Mrs. Stelly made a motion to recommend approval of the variance. Mrs. Purnell seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

There was no other business to come before the commission.

Mrs. Purnell made a motion to adjourn. Mrs. Stelly seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

The meeting of the Brusly Planning & Zoning Commission adjourned at 6:50 PM.
