Town Meeting Minutes – Monday, January 9, 2012

The regular meeting of the Town of Brusly was held this date, January 9, 2012 at the Brusly Town Hall.

Council Member Olinde led the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call determined the following officials present:
Mayor: Joey Normand
Council Members: Thomas Olinde, Joanne Bourgeois, Landess Hebert, Shane AndréTown Attorney: Thomas Acosta, Jr.

Donald Neisler was nominated to the Council due to Council Member Kershaw’s resignation as a result
of election to WBR Parish Council, by Council Member André; seconded by Council Member Bourgeois.
Mayor Normand opened the floor for public comments. Hearing no comments a roll call vote was had with the following results:
Yeas: André, Bourgeois, Hebert, Olinde
Nays: None
Abstaining: None
Absent: None

Following the vote, Attorney Acosta administered the Oath of Office to newly elected Council Member Neisler.

A motion to approve the minutes of the Town’s regular meeting of December 12, 2011, was made by Council Member Bourgeois and seconded by Council Member Olinde. Mayor Normand opened the floor for public comments. Hearing no comments, the motion passed with a unanimous vote.

Police Committee:
Upon Chief Whaley’s recommendation a motion to hire Robert Arrazattee as a Full Time Police Officer at the rate of $13.00 an hour was made by Council Member Bourgeois; seconded by Council Member Hebert. Mayor Normand opened the floor for public comments. Hearing no comments, a roll call vote was had with the following results:

Introduction of Ordinances:
Ordinance #1 of 2012 – Amend Chapter 19 of the Code of Ordinances, Re-Zoning Request, Harry L. Laws & Company, Inc., 45.05 acres located in Section 58, T-8-S, R-12-E, S.E. Land District West of the Mississippi River, Town of Brusly, State of Louisiana, was introduced by Council Member Bourgeois

Resolutions and Commendations: None

Fire Department Report:
Asst. Fire Chief Hunts gave the Fire Chief’s report for December. There were no fire calls inside the Town and seven (7) outside of Town. There were six (6) first aid calls inside of Town and nine (9) outside of Town. There were two (2) motor vehicle crashes, one (1) mutual aid call, one (1) arson call and one (1) bomb threat call. The total calls for the month were twenty-seven (27). The total for the year is three hundred thirty-five (335).

Police Department Report:
Report for the month of December was given by Chief Whaley. There were four (4) wrecks, thirteen (13) bench warrant arrests, one (1) assault, two (2) damage to property, nine (9) burglaries, three (3) alarms, fifteen (15) assists to other agencies, one (1) drug arrest, one (1) juvenile matter, five (5) traffic arrests and twelve (12) miscellaneous calls. For the month’s total, there were 66 calls, 136 citations and 170 violations.

Remarks of Personal Privilege:
Council Member Bourgeois reported that the 2011 Arbor Day Celebration was held on December 27, 2011. Bourgeois also announced the Brusly High School 100th Anniversary Celebration will be held March 25, 2012.

Announcements:
The Town Hall will be closed January 16, 2012 for Civil Rights Day.
The Landmark & Heritage Meeting will be held January 23, 2012 at 6:30 PM.

A motion was made by Council Member Olinde to adjourn; seconded by Council Member André. The motion passed with a unanimous vote. The meeting adjourned at 6:40 PM.
