Town Meeting Minutes – Monday, February 8, 2016

The regular meeting of the Town of Brusly was held this date, February 8, 2016, at the Brusly Town Hall, at 6:30 p.m. Council Member Richard led the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call determined the following officials present:

Mayor: Joey Normand
Council Members: Scot Rhodes, Joanne Bourgeois, Terry Richard, Shane Andrè, Don Neisler
Town Attorney: Thomas Acosta, Jr.
Absent: None

A motion to approve the minutes of the Town’s regular meeting of January 11, 2016, was made by Council Member Rhodes and seconded by Council Member Neisler. Mayor Normand opened the floor for public comment. Hearing no comments, the motion passed with a unanimous vote.

Recreation Committee: None

Police Committee:
Upon the recommendation of Police Chief Lefeaux, a motion to authorize the Police Chief to sign a contract with Thinkstream, was made by Council Member Rhodes; seconded by Council Member Richard. Mayor Normand opened the floor for public comment. Hearing no comments, the motion passed with a unanimous vote.

Police Chief Lefeaux presented a plaque to Gail Alleman, who retired on January 15, 2016, in appreciation of her years of service to the department.

Chief Lefeaux recognized former Brusly Fire Chief Mike Alleman upon his retirement on January 15, 2016, and presented a plaque for his service.

Hearing and Final Action on Ordinances: None

Introduction of Ordinances:
Council Member Neisler introduced Ordinance 1 of 2016-Chapter 19-Re-zoning and Re-subdividing Property at 1313 & 1331 West Main Street, Brusly from R-4 (Multi-Family Residential) to B-1 (Transition) at Request of Property Owners: Travis J. LeMoyne & Robyn Reine LeMoyne.

Resolutions and Commendations:
Mayor Normand read aloud from a Proclamation entitled “Brusly Fire Chief Mike Alleman Week” and presented it to Mr. Alleman for his years of service to the Town of Brusly.

Retired Chief Alleman thanked Mayor Normand and stated that even though his name was written on the Proclamation, it belonged to everyone that he worked with at the Brusly Fire Department.

Police Department Report:
Police Department Report for the month of January was given by Asst. Chief Southon. There was one (1) 911 hang up call, seven (7) alarms, three (3) assists to other departments, one (1) battery, two (2) burglaries, six (6) disturbances, three (3) civil matters, three (3) fire calls, four (4) miscellaneous calls, one (1) missing person, one (1) damage to property, three (3) private property vehicle accidents, one (1) roadway obstruction, one (1) suspicious person call, six (6) thefts, six (6) traffic accidents, thirty-five (35) traffic stops (arrest or tow), one (1) trespassing call, six (6) warrant arrests, five (5) driving under suspensions and thirty (30) no insurance tows. For the month there were 271 citations, 360 violations and a total of 95 complaints received.

Remarks of Personal Privilege:
WBR Fire Chief Kenny Hunts thanked Mike Alleman and his entire family for their service to the community.

Announcements:
The Town Hall will be closed February 9, 2016 in observance of Mardi Gras.
There will be a public meeting February 23, 2016 at the Addis Community Center regarding the I-10 Corridor in Baton Rouge, from Essen Lane to LA 415 in Port Allen.

A motion was made by Council Member Richard to adjourn; seconded by Council Member Rhodes. Hearing no comments, the motion passed with a unanimous vote. The meeting adjourned at 6:44 PM.
