Minutes of the Brusly Landmark & Heritage Commission – July 15, 2013

A meeting of the Brusly Landmark and Heritage Commission was held on Monday July 15, 2013, Brusly Town Hall, Brusly, Louisiana.

Chairman Rills called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. Commissioner Bourgeois led the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call determined the following officials present:

Commission Chairman: Jim Rills
Commission Members: Billy Bourgeois, Margaret Canella, Rose Jackson, Henry Soniat
Advisory Members: Brian Falcon, Kevin Durbin, Billy Hebert
Absent: Shirley Jordan, Sara Grady

Others present: Joanne Bourgeois, Don Neisler

Upon motion of Commissioner Jackson; seconded by Commissioner Canella, the minutes of the April 15, 2013 meeting were approved as written.

Landmark Plaque Applications:
Ms. Joanne Bourgeois presented a Landmark Plaque Application for the home located at 1651 Allene Street owned by Joel & Katherine Tingle. A motion to recommend the home to the Town Council was made by Commissioner Canella; seconded by Commissioner Bourgeois. The motion passed unanimously. The house dates back to the late 1800’s.

Ms. Joanne Bourgeois presented a historical marker design for the Commission to consider for former Landmark sites around Town. The design would consist of a bronze plaque approximately, 6 inches by 9 inches, attached to a decorative post. The bronze plaques would cost approximately $200.00 a piece. Commissioner Canella suggested checking the price of an oval-shaped plaque.

Chairman Rills talked briefly about the well attended Landmark Plaque Ceremony that had been held in May. A total of 5 homes received plaques at the ceremony. He thanked Patricia Lucas, Debbie Berthelot and Council Member Bourgeois for their efforts in coordinating the ceremony.

Ms. Joanne Bourgeois gave a brief update on replacing the “Welcome to Brusly” sign. Mr. Don Neisler will talk with Wayne Delapasse about contacting the LSU College or Architectural Design to see if students would be interested in this project.

A motion was made by Commissioner Canella to adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Jackson. The motion passed with a unanimous vote. Commission Chairman Rills adjourned the meeting at 7:05 P.M.
