Landmark & Heritage Meeting Minutes – July 2018

MINUTES OF THE BRUSLY LANDMARK & HERITAGE COMMISSION
July 16, 2018

 

A meeting of the Brusly Landmark and Heritage Commission was held on Monday July 16, 2018, at Brusly Town Hall, Brusly, Louisiana.
Chairman Rills called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. Commissioner Bourgeois led the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call determined the following:

Commission Chairman:                     Jim Rills
Commission Members Present:        Billy Bourgeois, Edward Dupuy, Henry Soniat
Commission Members Absent:         Margaret Canella, Rose Jackson, Shirley Jordan
Advisory Members Present:              Scarlet Callicoatte, Brian Falcon
Advisory Members Absent:               Billy Hebert
Others present:                                 Joanne Bourgeois

Advisory Member Billy Hebert arrived during the review of the April 16, 2018 meeting minutes.

Upon motion by Commissioner Bourgeois, seconded by Commissioner Dupuy, the minutes of the April 16, 2018, meeting were unanimously approved as written.

Landmark Plaque Applications:
Ms. Joanne Bourgeois narrated a slide presentation accompanying Landmark Plaque applications for the following homes:

  • 1837 Allene St. – Mike & Karen Averette (former home of Roy and Emily André);
  • 524 Lee Dr.       – Louis Arlen Landry;
  • 1622 Allene St. – Todd Lucas (former home of Jack and Faye Sarradet);

Upon the conclusion of the presentation, a motion to recommend the homes to the Town Council as Landmark Plaque recipients was made by Commissioner Bourgeois; seconded by Commissioner Soniat. The motion passed unanimously.

Former Landmark Site Applications: None

Other Business:
Ms. Joanne Bourgeois gave a brief report on the Landmark Ceremony that was held on June 10, 2018. Ms. Bourgeois also reported that efforts continue to obtain permission to place a Former Landmark Site Sign on the property where the Eureka School was located on East Main Street.

Chairman Rills suggested a history be written describing the origins of street names within the Town.

Public Comment: None

A motion was made by Commissioner Bourgeois to adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Soniat. The motion passed with a unanimous vote. Commission Chairman Rills adjourned the meeting at 6:59 PM
